Popular Magazine apps like Pulse and Flipboard has just received some serious competition in the form of a new application introduced by Yahoo. The app called Livestand is based on HTML 5 and formats content syndicated from various sources in a magazine themed format.
Like we mentioned, the application is similar to existing apps like Pulse and Flipboard. Livestand boasts of features that include the ability to watch videos and images inline. All content displayed on the app is formatted to look best on the 9.7 inch display of the iPad.
The application is constantly updated with data fed from Twitter, news headlines, stock quotes and essential information automatically. Users can customize the content that is displayed on the application homepage as well.
Another interesting feature is the support for multiple profiles. Users can create up to 4 different profiles on the iPad if your iPad is used by more than one member of the family. The app would then deliver customized content to each of the profile depending on how users set it up.
As to why someone would choose to use this app instead of already existing apps, well Yahoo has a reason. The company has tied up with various content providers for exclusive content that would only be available on Livestand. Apart from that the app also has a “All about You” section that would deliver daily updates pertaining to weather, stocks, horoscope updates and TV listings.
The App is currently available only in the US and is a free download. If you have an iPad, this one’s a must download . Yahoo has promised that the app would soon arrive for other platforms as well.
